Best Movie Poster Design So Far in 2009

 

Just released is the movie poster design for the fall action flick "Gamer". The movie starring Gerard Butler (King Leonidas in "300") as the superstar (Think Kobe with guns) of a team called the "Slayers". He is forced against his will to fight for his and his family’s life each week in prime time. Think "Gladiator" meets the "The Running Man". The plot synopsis looks to tap into all the gamers world-wide who burn the midnight oil playing shoot em’ ups and then leave the basement once a year to attend the E3 Expo. The movie poster smartly juxtaposes the game controllers for the X-Box 360 against a menacing looking hand gun. Conspicuously absent is the Microsoft logo on the hand unit. Nice design...Our favorite so far this year.

Licensing Show Expo Previews New Poster Designs

 

This year's Licensing Expo Show in Las Vegas unveils some new movie posters designs. The Licensing trade show is the venue where the studios showcase upcoming properties to potential licensees. On display were "Spiderman 4" (release May 2001), "Shrek IV" (May 2010), "Iron Man 2" (May 2010), and new Dreamworks animated film "Oobermind" (November 2010). These are pretty uninspiring designs probably thrown together so the studios have something to display. The exception could be "Oobermind" for no other reason than that the characters look interesting and suggest you may want to know more. Also on display were the logos for the upcoming family of Marvel properties.

"Hangover" Character Posters from Italy

Starting with Mike Tyson’s very own movie poster from the movie (infinitely better than the movie poster for the Toback film "Tyson") Translated it says "Where’s my tiger?" We then have as follows; Doug (Justin Bartha) - "Have you seen this man", The Tiger - "Where’s Doug?", The Chicken - "Easy, Tiger", Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong) - "You mess with the wrong guy", Jade (Heather Graham) - "Well, Technically I’m an escort", and finally our favorite, The Baby with the Shades voicing the "theme" of the movie - "What happened last night?". Great stuff...great movie!

David Carradine - Dead at 72 Years Old

David Carradine, 72 was found dead yesterday in a Bangkok hotel room. Carradine appeared in over 100 movies, most notable was an excellent performance in 1976 film "Bound for Glory". Arguably, his most famous role was on television as Kwai Chang Caine in the series "Kung Fu". The phrase, "Be patient Grasshopper" has entered the lexicon of American pop-culture almost as much as, "I’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse". He starred in the violent camp classic "Death Race 2000" . He enjoyed a resurgence of sorts when Quentin Tarentino cast him as the character "Bill" in "Kill Bill – Volume One" and "Kill Bill – Volume II".

Carradine was the half brother of actor Keith Carradine and son of veteran character actor John Carradine. Carradine was a busy actor lately. He had six movies in post-production and one in pre-production.

Russian Movie Poster for Tim Burton’s “9” Released

Great new design for the movie poster from Russia. The movie which is about rag dolls who exist in an apocalyptic world where machines are trying to destroy them. Rag dolls aside, does this sound like a familiar plot line?

The movie set to be released on 9/9/09. The trailer looks cool, check it out. You can buy posters for "9" here
