French Upset with Movie Poster Image of a “Smokin’ Coco Chanel”

Say it isn’t so. Have the French actually arrived at a point where they can be offended by an image of one of the country’s great icons smoking? This week French authorities were in an uproar over the display of the movie poster for upcoming release of “Coco Avant Chanel”. The image in the poster shows actress Audrey Tautou holding a cigarette (think “Gilda”). Metrobus the French advertising company that is responsible for all the Paris bus and train advertising has banned the movie poster. The movie poster was banned in order to satisfy new legislation that strictly prohibits the depiction of smoking in any kind of advertising. To mollify the powers that be they are now displaying a non-smoking version instead.

Marilyn Chambers Dead at 56

Marilyn Chambers was found dead today at her Los Angeles home. She was best known as the “Ivory Soap” girl who became a porn star in the movie “ Behind the Green Door ”. We liked her as the girl with the “what the hell was that” under her arm in David Cronenberg’s 1977 sophomore effort “ Rabid .” Never could have been considered to have much acting talent, Chambers had one of those unfortunate careers that was all about sex which she could never shake. Julie and Julia Movie Poster: Eggs. Just Eggs.

According to the movie poster for the Julie & Julia, I apparently do not have what it takes. I have passion and ambition, yes, but woefully I am down to a half a stick of butter and the store is much too far to drive to right now and I don’t do my food shopping until the weekend so no delicious cakes will get made today. In case you’re wondering, Julie and Julia is a movie about Julia Childs and cooking, which prevents the poster designer from throwing in the usual staples of posterdom (explosions, dragons, fast cars, floating heads, guns, guys with sunglasses, bikini models, spaceships, blood, awkward posing, etc.) However, if the designer found a way to include any (or preferably all) of those things, and maybe ninjas, then I would totally pre-order tickets.

The poster for the documentary Food, Inc. shows us that even cows can have style. Food, Inc. is a documentary about the U.S. Food Industry and what's been kept away from the public eye. This film is clearly not for those people who like sausage but don't want to know how it's made.

Breaking News: “Star Trek: Ferenginar Rising” Advance Poster Released

Breaking News: In a stunning move by the studio, the advance one-sheet poster for the next Star Trek film has been released before the current film even hit theaters. Star Trek: Ferenginar Rising is slated to hit theaters in the 4th quarter 2010. We assume they intend to capitalize on the pre-release hype of the Star Trek reboot by releasing the poster for the next movie before the script is finished. Of course, this makes a few details about the next script clear: Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will obviously be returning as Kirk and Spock, and the plot will center around the Ferengi from Star Trek: The Next Generation. According to the lore, the Ferengi were once enemies of the Federation but achieved a tenuous alliance with them by the end of Deep Space Nine. Whether Armin Shimmerman will reprise his role as Quark is unknown.
