The poster for Evilution sports a screaming guy with a machine gun and a syringe exploding from a skull with long strands of DNA with scientists and girls and more screaming guys and, of course, fighter jets. I don’t really know how much more awesome you could pack into a poster unless maybe you threw dinosaurs in there fighting robot ninjas.
We've always enjoyed illustrated movie posters because they can be over-exaggerated. This is a classic throwback to the grindhouse horror movie posters of the 70s. You’ve got the big gritty title, large-breasted, scantily-clad female lead with torn clothes and scared out of her mind. You’ve got the open-shirted all-American guy with the shotgun. And of course, a bulldozer with tentacles. Gotta love that bulldozer with tentacles.
Fast & Furious (i.e., The Fast and the Furious 4, now with more Vin Diesel), comes out in April, and you’d think the poster designer would put a little effort into it, considering they got the cast of The Fast and the Furious back. Floating actors heads and that car from the first movie scream, “Hey, look! It’s just like the first movie, but with a different plot!” Thing is,
Jordana Brewster’s head looks “off”. It’s way smaller than the rest and shot with different lighting and at a different angle, making her look like the elf on
Vin Diesel’s shoulder that tells him to burn things. I hope that’s the plot.
This is a good looking poster, but if I saw Martin Sheen staring me down angrily and
Ving Rhames pointing a gun at me on my giant monitor wall, I might run away too.
The movie poster for The Haunting in Connecticut touts that it was based on true events. If those true events were puking weird and upward, then Star Wars was also based on true events. Is that vomit? What is that stuff? This poster is gross and confusing.
Then again, maybe this movie will be so awesome and make so much money that they’ll make other movies and about haunting in other states.
Coming soon: “The Haunting of Delaware”- It’s about some guys, and they do stuff in Delaware, and there’s ghosts. Maybe some puking.
In the romantic comedy “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past”, Matthew McConaughey plays a guy haunted by the ghosts of his dead ex-girlfriends. However, if I didn’t just tell you the plot and that it’s a rom-com, you could only guess from looking at the poster and tagline that maybe it’s a horror movie and
Matthew McConaughey is playing a serial killer and
Jennifer Garner saves the day by strangling him with his own scarf.
Also, I apologize profusely for using the term “rom-com”.
Here’s the poster for a second remake of the 70’s crime classic “The Taking of Pelham One, Two, Three”. The original starred the excellent British actor Robert Shaw as “Mr. Blue” (Tarentino credited the movie for influencing his character’s names in “Reservoir Dogs”) and Walter Matthau as Transit Police Lieutenant, Garber.
The movie was remade for TV in 1998 with Vincent D’Onofrio as “Mr. Blue”. In this latest version John Travlota reprises the role of “Mr. Blue” and Denzel Washington plays the Transit Police Lieutenant Garber. It will be a tall order for the new film to measure up to the original. Regardless, it has the cast and the story for a must see. One might think the design firm would have considered a throwback design similar to the what was done for the “The Bank Job” as a homage to the original.. No luck..we get the standard two headed contemporary design...
Only slightly different than the first teaser poster, the new Halloween 2 poster features a slightly different Michael Myers and more emphasis on Rob Zombie being a part of it. I guess if a horror film is written and directed by a guy with “Zombie” in his stage name, it gets extra street cred.
Creepy house? Check. Backlit wooded area with leafless trees? Check. Blood smeared logo? Check. Tagline that makes you question your inner mettle? Check. Okay, we’ve got a horror movie.
The Last House on the Left opens March 13th.
See, in 17 Again, Matthew Perry’s character turns back into his 17 year old self, played by
Zac Efron, and sees his life and family from a different perspective. In
18 Again, George Burns’ character turns into his 18 year old grandson, played by
Charlie Schlatter, and sees his life and family from a different perspective. Totally different movie!
