Kevin Smith made a
movie with such a troublesome title he can’t even place ads or
movie posters for it in some places. The original teaser
movie poster was banned from display when it was released at the Toronto Film Festival. The first
movie poster offended the MPAA and the insisted it stop being distributed. This came after the MPAA first slapped the film with a “kiss of death” NC 17 rating. Writer-director
Kevin Smith was able to convince the MPAA to change to an “R” rating.
The teaser movie poster looks pretty innocuous to us although the reverse placement of the “from behind” head shots in the bottom center might be cause for somebody to get upset. Thankfully it appears some foreign distributors don’t seem too concerned about the content. Click here to view the banned movie poster in Greek.
In response to the banning of the teaser movie poster, the studio released a movie poster using “stick figures”. One of the movie posters had the text “made a movie so outrageous we can’t even tell you the title”. The other movie poster had the text “Made a movie so titillating we can only show you this drawing”:
I guess one might imagine that these two movie posters were a big screw you to the MPAA for being such prudes. Finally, they have now released a third and what appears to be final movie poster in Russian.
