Opening this week is "Death Race" (a.k.a.: "Death Race 3000), a remake of the 1975 cult classic, "Death Race 2000", with a new script written by director Paul W.S. Anderson.
Starring Jason Statham, this action-thriller is set in the post-industrial wasteland of the future, where inmates from a penitentiary compete in a grisly contest for a global audience hungry for televised violence.
The original "Death Race 2000" from 1975 featured David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone from before his "Rocky" days. It was filmed by cinematographer Tak Fujimoto ("Badlands", "Silence of the Lambs", "Sixth Sense", "Ferris Bueller's Day Off").
Whenever Jason Statham is in a movie, a lot of people like me would expect him driving an awesome car. Same thing's true in this movie, minus the "awesome car" part. Well, not really minus. They're driving cars with weapons, or should I call 'em mini-tanks. Haha! Still, it's cool to see Jason Statham in another driving movie other than The Transporter.
