Tyler Perry had another successful launch with his fourth feature film, "Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?", grabbing the top spot at the box office with over $21 million. Even though his latest didn't feature his popular character Madea, it was on par with his Madea pictures, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea's Family Reunion.
The other new releases and wide expansions didn't fare as well. George Clooney struggled with "Michael Clayton", although with around $11 million, it was enough for third place on the chart. Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg fared about as well, as "We Own the Night", which was marketed as a film similar to "The Departed", pullled about the same numbers and ended up in fourth.
"Elizabeth: The Golden Age" managed a not so regal $6.2 million - perhaps audiences have had their fill of English queens for the moment.
Meanwhile, as an indication of how poor the fall slate has been, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's "The Game Plan" has become the season's top earner with $59.4 million in 17 days, surpassing "3:10 to Yuma".
Last weekend's full top 10 was as follows:
