Commentators are now saying that "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" is shaping up to be a disappointment at the box office, after posting a 62 percent drop since its opening weekend, and closing this past weekend with around $43 million in ticket sales. Despite holding onto the number one spot this weekend, they are also saying Pirates 3 may not make it to the magic $300 million in domestic box office totals.
"Knocked Up", a comedy from the makers of "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and starring Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen, proved to be a bright spot on the charts, finishing in second place with $29.3 million from around 3,700 screens - not bad for a picture with a budget of $30 million. Kevin Costner with "Mr. Brooks" debuted in fourth place with $10 million, a little on the low side for this type of genre, and the other new release "Gracie" blipped on the chart in seventh place with $1.4 million.
Last weekend's full top 10 was as follows:
1. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End - $43.2 M
2. Knocked Up - $29.3 M
3. Shrek the Third - $26.7 M
4. Mr. Brooks - $10 M
5. Spider-Man 3 - $7.5 M
