Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker swung into box office history over the weekend, as "Spider-Man 3" debuted in the widest release ever (10,000 screens at 4,252 theatres) and in the process, spinning over $148 million at the box office. Not only was it the biggest opening weekend ever, Spidey set records for all-time daily grosses, the fastest to $100 million, and the best ever IMAX opening - $4.8 million, beating out 300.
Not much to talk about with the other movies in the top ten - in fact the gap between first place "Spider-Man" and second place "Disturbia" was also a record. The only other wide release "Lucky You" limped into 6th place with just over $2.5 million, and they had to know it would be suicide to go up against the web slinger.
Last weekend's full top 10 was as follows:
1. Spider-Man 3 - $148 M

3. Fracture - $3.4 M
4. The Invisible - $3.1 M
