It was the poorest showing for an end of April weekend in almost ten years, with "Disturbia" managing to hold the top spot for the third weekend in a row - the only movie to do so this year. With meagre returns from the new releases, "The Invisible", "Next" and "The Condemned", total box office receipts were down around 23 percent from the same time last year.
Beuna Vista's teen supernatural thriller "The Invisible" fared better than Nicolas Cage in "Next" which managed to pull a scant $7.2 million despite Paramount Pictures hoping it would pull from the success of "Ghost Rider" two and a half months ago. Dropping out of the top ten were the movies "In the Land of Women", "Wild Hogs" and "Perfect Stranger" after just three weeks.
Next weekend will be sure to put some big numbers back on the board with the highly anticipated release of "Spider-Man 3".
Last weekend's full top 10 was as follows:
1. Disturbia - $9.1 M
2. The Invisible - $7.6 M
3. Next - $7.2 M
4. Fracture - $7.0 M
5. Blades of Glory - $5.2 M
6. Meet the Robinsons - $4.8 M
7. Hot Fuzz - $4.8 M
8. Vacancy - $4.2 M
9. The Condemned - $4.0 M
10. Are We Done Yet? - $3.4 M
